Growing Pastors

2 03 2008

Tonight I attended the Growing Pastors event at Greenville First Wesleyan with Pastor Scott and his wife, Debbie. Jeff Shipman, pastor at Columbia Crossroads, talked about measuring success.

4 qualitative measurements of success:

Foundation #1: Intimacy with God

*How can you have a church if the people do not engage with God in a real way?

Foundation #2: Qualitative difference in our people

*Shouldn’t there be a difference in the way our people treat each other?

Foundation #3: People knowing and using their Spirit-giftedness

*Did God give us His Spirit so that we could use them only for one hour a week?

Foundation #4: Telling your grace story

*Can our people share the hope that they have?

*Being intentional, but not legalistic*

1 quantitative measurement of success:

Circle of accountability
We as a church body will take a geographic area and make sure – that by a certain point in time – to give every man, woman and child a chance to hear the gospel.

Learning points:

1. The Kingdom is bigger than my church

Other churches are not the enemy – Satan is the enemy.

2. We have to plant churches

In the buckle of the Bible Belt, only 1 out of 5 people is in church on Sunday morning – we have a huge mission field.

3. We have to be willing to put anything on the line for the gospel

Salary, land, life, etc…

EVERY MAN WOMAN AND CHILD IN YOUR GEOGRAPHIC AREA WITH MULTIPLE CHANCES TO RECEIVE THE GOSPEL!
