The Olympic Spirit – Part 2

15 08 2008

Another day, another…ummm…post…

  • We’ll start with Michael – Gold #6, all of his medals have come with world record times, 2 more to go, can anyone beat him?
  • In another world record feat and quite a surprise, Rebecca Soni won the 200m breaststroke – two seconds ahead of the former world record holder!
  • Ryan Lochte won his first gold in the 200m backstroke – congratulated by Phelps…very cool
  • Women’s 100m freestyle was crazy close – Germany’s Britta Steffen beat Australia’s Libby Trickett by 0.04 seconds. Silver for Trickett who made it into the race because another swimmer was DQ’ed.
  • 4 golds and 12 medals total in the past 24 hours
  • China has 22 gold medals, 36 medals total
  • The US has 14 golds, but 43 total medals
  • For the first time in these games, the Star-Spangled Banner was heard in the gym – Nastia Liukin performed absolutely brilliantly to win gold in the Women’s Individual All-Around followed by a come-from-behind surge from Shawn Johnson for silver
  • Finally, thank you Adam Wheeler for medaling in Greco-Roman Wrestling – I applaud you for being comfortable enough in your manhood to hug a man into submission

Surely, there’s more to come soon…
