The Olympic Spirit – Part 3

15 08 2008

More rambling…

  • Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh won their game against the Belgian team in the round of 16 to advance to the quarterfinals of beach volleyball – this makes 105 straight wins for the team
  • Also advancing in beach volleyball was the U.S. team of Nicole Branagh and Elaine Youngs – this could lead to a finals face-off of the two American teams
  • Cuba handed the US baseball team its second loss in a 5-4 eleven-inning match
  • U.S. over Canada 2-1 in women’s soccer due to an incredible header in extra time from the appropriately named “Flyin’ Hawaiian,” Natasha Kai
  • Women’s softball played 1 and a half games and won both – the half game was a hold-over from a rain delay
  • American women also trounced Spain in basketball 93-55…ouch!
  • Roger Federer may have lost the singles tennis gold, but still gets a chance to go home with the highest prize in the doubles – Federer and Swiss teammate Stanislas Wawrinka put out gold-medal favorites Bob and Mike Bryan, twins representing America
  • The dynamic duo of Philip Dalhausser and Todd Rogers barely survived the onslaught on the Swiss beach volleyball team to advance to the quarterfinals
  • Britain’s Rebecca Adlington broke a 19 year record for fastest 800m freestyle
  • 0.01 seconds – Gold #7…unbelievable

It just keeps going…
