The Olympic Spirit, part 8

21 08 2008

Mmmm, mmmm, good…

  • Three American women qualified for the 200m dash final – three Jamaicans also qualified for the final
  • Jamaica is rockin’ the sprints
  • Usain Bolt captured gold and the world record in the men’s 200m dash, smashing Michael Johnson’s old mark – two runners were disqualified in the match for stepping on lane lines, both losing medals
  • Men’s basketball saw the “Redeem Team” with another rout, Australia falling into the wake 116-85
  • The men’s indoor volleyball semifinals will include the American team after a scare from the Serbian team in a five set game
  • GOLD! Kerri Walsh and Misty May-Treanor won in consecutive sets to claim top honors in beach volleyball – a bit of advice for the future…don’t wear white in the rain
  • The U.S. is making its first quarterfinal appearance in table tennis – Wang Chen, a Chinese-American, scraped by South Korea’s Kim Kyung Ah 4-3
  • U.S. women’s indoor volleyball easily ousted the 3rd-ranked Cuban team in three sets – just over a week ago, Cuba beat this same team in three sets – can’t find a link…this news is too fresh!

I love you, Olympics!
